Areas like central Tokyo experience heat island effects, with increasingly severe summer temperatures every year. In response, meanswhile collaborated with Kuchofuku Co., Ltd., a leading maker of fan-equipped garments, to develop a fan-cooled jacket. Although electric fan jackets have become more common at construction sites, meanswhile focused on the concept of “wearing more clothing even in hot weather” and adapted this technology for everyday wear.
Merging an external air intake fan with rainwear presented a challenge: the intake feature conflicts with waterproofing. Drawing on its long-standing experience as a fashion brand, meanswhile integrated style and functionality, creating a comfortable fan-cooled jacket that can be worn even on rainy days.
Rather than viewing fan-equipped clothing purely as a uniform, meanswhile has approached it as a fashion piece. By reimagining these garments from professional gear to everyday wear—and ultimately as a statement of personal style—meanswhile aims to pioneer a new kind of clothing culture unique to Tokyo.

Philosophy & Vision
Tools Closest to the Body

meanswhile regards everyday clothing not as costumes, but as tools—essentials that support human activity. Good design makes such tools more functional, and as they blend into daily life, the wearer naturally develops a personal style. This style, in turn, is what fashion should truly represent.
