The origins of Tokyo’s traditional silverware, known as "Tokyo Gin-ki," date back to the mid-Edo period when silversmiths (shiroganeshi) and metal artisans (kinko-shi) began crafting various ornaments and shrine fittings. Traditionally, high-purity silver (92.5% or more) has been used in these crafts.

Moriginki’s coffee and tea utensils combine traditional decorative techniques such as "tsuchime-uchi" (hammered texture), "ganseki-uchi" (rock-finish hammering), "polished finish," and "antique finish." Their tea utensils incorporate "tatesuji" (raised linear textures), which is similar to plant vein patterns, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with modern usability.

As global interest in specialty coffee and Japanese tea continues to grow, consumers are becoming more discerning about both their beans and leaves, as well as the tools used to prepare and serve them. Moriginki Seisakusho showcases the essence of "Tokyo Gin-ki" with uniquely crafted silver utensils that embody both tradition and contemporary aesthetics.

Silver' is written in Japanese characters as 'better than gold,' symbolizing its esteemed value.
Founded in 1927 by Zen-nosuke Mori, Moriginki Seisakusho is approaching its 100th anniversary as a historic silverware maker. Guided by the philosophy of "bringing richness and joy to customers’ lives," Moriginki Seisakusho constantly seeks to answer questions such as: "What kind of silverware will truly be used and appreciated?" "How can we convey the warmth that silver embodies?" "What designs will bring the most enjoyment to those who use them?" Through continuous exploration, the company remains dedicated to crafting silverware that resonates with its customers.

In addition to traditional sake sets, Moriginki creates modern coffee pots, mills, drippers, as well as handmade silver tea scoops and tea whisk rests. Silver utensils in these forms remain rare, making each piece truly special.

Designated as a nationally recognized traditional craft, "Tokyo Gin-ki" represents Japan’s long-standing heritage. Moriginki Seisakusho is proud to contribute to its preservation and aims to continue its legacy into its 100th year and beyond.
