Making your usual sake even more delicious
Edo Kiriko is said to have started in 1834 (Tenpo 5) when Kyubei Kagaya carved the surface of the glass with Kongo sand. In 1881 (Meiji 14), an artisan called Sakutaro Kuroda, one of the Japanese who is said to have received glass cutting techniques from Mr. Emmanuel Hauptmann, who was invited from England. Ohba Glass Processor Co., Ltd. has been striving to advance the processing of the traditional craft, "Edo Kiriko,” ever since the founder, Toshio Ohba, became independent and established it in Ojima, Koto Ward, in 1966 (Showa 41) after finishing his apprenticeship under Sadamatsu Kuroda, the direct decedent of Sakutaro Kuroda. The studio was moved to the current location, Koto Ward, in 1985 (Showa 60). After the 2nd generation and the current president Kazutoshi Ohba joined as an artisan, we have also started to focus on the manufacturing and sales of our company's original design products. We are also working on creating a nostalgic and new Edo Kiriko that depicts the four seasons and sceneries of Japan, using traditional patterns and the traditional, geometric-patterned Edo Kiriko. We will continue to create Edo Kiriko that beautifully blends into daily life that will allure you to take it out from the cupboard and selectively use it even before you know it.
Creator's Commitment
Edo Kiriko that beautifully blends into daily life that would make you want to use it even before you know it
Ohba Glass Processor Co., Ltd. manufactures Edo Kiriko daily, aspiring to continue providing Edo Kiriko that would make you want to take it into your own hands and use it even before you know it. There must be a reason for the simple act of selecting it from the cupboard. The comfortable textures when you take it into your own hands, the beauty when pouring your favorite drink or putting your favorite food, the pleasant feelings the glass offers when you drink from it. These different kinds of factors accumulate, making you want to naturally take our Edo Kiriko into your own hands, becoming a favorite piece for someone. This is our desire and goal.
Even for a single cut line, the cut surface's texture you can feel with your hand varies depending on the rotating tool used. Many cuts accumulate in a single Edo Kiriko. The textures and feelings you will feel when you hold it varies depending on the used tool. That is why the selection of tools in each process significantly influences the finishing. While continuing to use the tools inherited from the first generation carefully, the current president, who is the second generation, will incorporate new tools without fearing changes as needed, pass them on to the next generation, and listen to the voices of customers without being satisfied with the current situation. We will continue to make Edo Kiriko that brings a smile to our users.
