Selected for the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Final Lap Bell | Ryukobo Kumihimo Goes Global
A long-established maker of Edo kumihimo (traditional Japanese braided cord), one of Tokyo’s traditional crafts, Ryukobo produced the cord used to ring the final lap bell at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Created by Seiko to commemorate the event in Tokyo, this special final lap bell was selected as an important element that helps define the atmosphere of a global sporting celebration.
For the cord, Ryukobo used Edo-purple silk threads—the official color of the championships—as the base, and braided in gold and silver threads to express both dignity and strength.
By tying the cord 11 times, the piece was also given a deeper meaning: a symbol that connects athletes and supporters, and links their home countries with Tokyo.
Ryukobo also offers interior products that apply the kumihimo techniques showcased on this world stage.
Tokyo’s traditional braiding craft stands alongside athletes competing at the highest level, adding an extra presence and shine to the excitement of the event.
