[Embracing Tokyo Fine-patterned Dyeing] Tomita Dyed Crafts Exhibits
at the French Exhibition, Synergies entre tradition et modernité
Tomita Dyed Crafts Co., Ltd., a dyeing studio known for traditional Tokyo fine-patterned dyeing ("Tokyo some-komon" in Japanese) that launched the brand SARAKICHI, attended the French exhibition, Synergies entre tradition et modernité held in Dijon and Paris from October to November 2024.
This exhibition, themed around the necessities of life, highlights traditional industrial techniques rooted in various regions of Japan, and displays and sells products that incorporate these traditional techniques for modern life.
SARAKICHI employs the technique of Tokyo fine-patterned dyeing for everyday materials such as leather, wood, and tiles.
This technique was initially developed during the Edo period for formal samurai attire called "kamishimo."
SARAKICHI offers a wide array of products that incorporate traditional Japanese culture with the modern world.
In addition to showcasing and selling their products at their exhibition booth, Tomita Dyed Crafts also held workshops where visitors could experience the art of Tokyo fine-pattern dyeing and see firsthand the magic of this traditional technique.
Through this exhibition, Tomita Dyed Crafts were able to share not just their products using Tokyo fine-pattern dyeing, but also its culture, history, and techniques with the people of France.
Visitors can also take part in the Tokyo fine-pattern dyeing workshops at the studio connected to the Tokyo Some Monogatari Museum in Waseda, Tokyo. Please be sure to take advantage of this opportunity!
